Spain Vintage 1967-73

SpainA second collection of retro Spanish club and national Vintage images from the 60s and 70s. With the national team treading water in these years, most of the focus is on the clubs and the return to La Liga of the big name foreign stars with the lifting of the import ban in 1973.

The most seismic of deals took Johan Cruyff to Barcelona in the late autumn of 1973 for a world record transfer fee, and his influence kickstarted an awakening process for the Catalan giants after years in the shadows. With Real Madrid also in decline as the 1970s ticked round, these years presented opportunities to clubs like Valencia and Atlético Madrid to dominate the domestic narrative and both clubs enjoyed considerable success during this era.

These days it’s Barcelona who are on the decline, they sit in 7th spot in La Liga. However, even at this early stage of the season this has had little effect on the latest La Liga winner odds with Barca & Real Madrid remaining firm favorites as the prime contenders for the 2021 title race.
