Our first Sheffield United Vintage post takes up back to the years when the club were pushing hard for a return back to the top flight of the English game.

With a team that featuring a solid defence that included Joe Shaw, Graham Shaw and international keeper Alan Hodgkinson, United eventually secured promotion in 1961. It was a fitting finale to a fine season that had also taken them to an FA Cup semi-final.
