Happier times arrived for Middlesbrough in the mid 1970s with the appointment of Jack Charlton as manager. The England World Cup winner fashioned a fine team that mixed talented youth with seasoned old-handers that waltzed to the Division Two title in 1974. Boro were back in the top flight after two decades away.
