Leeds United’s greatest-ever player Billy Bremner is the subject of our latest Star Strip as we take a look at his career from his Elland Road debut in 1960 through to 1967, when this feature was originally published.
Short, irritable and aggressive; Bremner had all the classic traits of a Scottish midfielder, but beyond the infamous intimidatory aspects of his game was a fine footballer with a good eye for a pass and a habit of scoring important goals. His best years were still ahead of him but by 1967 he was already captain of Leeds and a Scotland regular. We do like the frames with Bremner talking, especially artist Bob Bond’s variable attempts to translate any sort of obvious Scottish accent into print.
