Our first Coventry City Vintage post takes in retro images of some of the players who were key in driving the club to unprecedented heights during the 1960s.
The appointment of Jimmy Hill as manager in 1961 was the catalyst for the upturn in Coventry fortunes. By 1964 the club had been promoted as champions from Division Three South and just three seasons later they added the Division Two title, earning entry into the top flight for the first time in their history.
With Noel Cantwell in charge the Sky Blues achieved a best ever sixth placed Division One finish in 1970 and a first and only entry into European competition the following season. Quite a change for a club that just a decade earlier was toiling badly and had exited the FA Cup at the hands of non-League Kings Lynn.
